Nothing is filled in and nothing is shaded — the sheet is the
grid, the dates and the activities on white. Choosing
Save as PDF as the destination is what makes it a
file rather than a page.
The sheet asks for its own paper and for landscape,
so the dialog should already have both. If it does not, set the paper
there to match the one chosen above — a print dialog that has
been left on Letter portrait will squeeze the whole month onto it.
